Eat up the dregs of this year’s early releases.

Out This Week is a roundup of new games that are out this week. These listings don’t constitute an endorsement or a review of any sort. We also don’t pretend that this is an exhaustive list. If there’s a game on the horizon that interests you, share it in the comments.

Anarchy Reigns
PlayStation 3, Xbox 360—January 8

This fighting game was released in Japan over the summer, meaning the people across the sea have had a glimpse into the future long before us plebeians. It’s a future where large mechanical bulls swing “jet hammers”—anvils of destruction raining from rods of doom. Which is just great, because I invested all my money in promising “steam mallet” technology, and for what?!

Earth Defense Force 2017
PlayStation Vita—January 8

Look, I wasn’t entirely sure why, of all the games that the D3 Publisher folks could port over to the Vita, they chose Earth Defense Force 2017, six years removed from its launch on the Xbox 360. Then I watched the trailer. Might it have something to do with the time you put on a jet pack and shot a bazooka at comically large ants? I’m gonna say…entirely.

The Sims 3: Monte Vista
PC—January 3 (previously only available through The Sims store)

In this one, your Sim learns how to cook a calzone. Escapism at its finest.

I am sure they’ll humor you with a stuff pack sponsored by Uncle Ben’s and Taylor Swift and it’ll only cost $29.99.
More than actual Korean BBQ costs for sure…

@BreakingRad:disqus: That’s nothing. A friend of mine pre-ordered Diablo 3 for a hay-penny he made selling turnips. Then they upped the price to a full shilling. He changed his pre-order after that and ordered it from a place in Friesland, but they wanted half a gulden and prima noctis, so he eventually bought one of those revolutionary new cess-pools instead.
