Lucky Peach

Bye-bye, workday! The creator of Candy Box just released a new game, Lucky Peach

By John Teti • June 27, 2013

Remember that time we all got hooked on Candy Box, the amazing text-only browser game that took us on an unaccountably engrossing journey through goblin lairs and lollipop farms? Well, if you don’t remember, Candy Box is still around, so you can go see what all the fuss is about. But there is a new development. The maker of Candy Box has a new game. It’s called Lucky Peach, because it was commissioned for the McSweeney’s food magazine by the same name. Here is everything I know so far:

  • You start out lost at sea.
  • There’s a “hamburgers sea” and a “cupcakes ocean,” amid other fantastical bodies of water.
  • You’re supposed to avoid apples—they make you weigh less, whereas all the junk food makes you heavier.
  • Eventually you will run ashore on an island. There are crabs there. Catch the crabs.

I had to stop there and write this post to tell you all about it before I got completely sucked in. Go forth and share the insights from your adventures in yonder comment threads below.

in my first game i got too fat on the pizza ocean (402 lbs) and died happily.  replaying since i think overeating prevented me from seeing more game.

Okay, screw you, food cooking game.  I did it as fast as possible, the “cook food” timer reached 0 before the end timer, and it still kicked me back to the previous menu with 3 escaped crabs.

yeah, i tried to do a lot of things to get out of pizza bay and couldn’t manage it. maybe that is [POTENTIAL SPOILER] where the game ends and there aren’t any weird rabbit holes to get lost in

Yeah, I thought that’s what the headline was talking about.  And then I read the article and was all “OH NO NOT AGAIN.”

Thanks a goddamned lot, I was going to finish Candy Box but I played this one instead. I really should have gone to bed half an hour ago, too. And I don’t even have guns yet and there are Alien Alloys now?

  5. Captain Internet says:

I think I’ll leave it thanks- I’m scared I’ll end up feeling the way I did when I bought Lou Bega’s follow up to Mambo Number 5.

  6. Naked Man Holding A Fudgesicle says:

“Hi John, how was your day at work?”

“Pretty good honey, I caught crabs!”

  7. Xtracurlyfries says:

I’m currently stuck on the side of the coconut tree. I don’t know if it glitched or if I’m too fat to make it up.

  8. Sarapen says:

I forgot that I still hadn’t finished the last castle in Candy Box. Okay, resolution: I will finish the game before July.
